Singapore property developer KOP Limited held on Thursday (30 Aug) the ground-breaking ceremony for its first project in China that will house the world’s biggest indoor ski and snow park.

Dubbed as Wintastar Shanghai, the integrated sports-entertainment-tourism resort will also feature more than 1,000 rooms across four themed hotels that will be run by KOP’s award-winning luxury hospitality brand Montigo Resorts.

On the other hand, the 90,000 sq m indoor ski and snow park will be managed by Majid Al Futtaim, a Dubai-based firm that operates Ski Dubai and Ski Egypt.

Aside from the ski and snow park, which includes an ice-skating rink, the massive project will come with a water theme park, 11,000 sq m of retail and F&B space, as well as venues for shows, events and exhibitions.

Anticipated to be completed by 2022, the multi-billion renminbi development with a total gross floor area (GFA) of 227,000 sq m is expected to draw about 3.2 million visitors per annum on a stabilised basis.

“The timing for Wintastar Shanghai could not be better, with Chinese consumers yearning for travel, leisure, novel experiences, and winter sports being the next big thing in China because of the Beijing Winter Olympics 2022,” said KOP’s executive chairman and executive director Ong Chih Ching.

“This is KOP’s largest project so far, and like our past track record of iconic projects, we are excited to work alongside our strong local partners to push new boundaries and introduce new and innovative concepts to the Chinese market. The large-scale mixed-development will also offer opportunities for KOPL to build new income streams, many of which are recurring in nature, for our sustainable growth going forward.”
