Supermarket chain FairPrice plans to expand this year, with the opening of six new supermarkets and a hypermarket.
These include a FairPrice store in Tanjong Pagar, a FairPrice Xtra store in Changi, a supermarket in Punggol and the 10th FairPrice Finest store at Amara Shopping Centre in Tanjong Pagar, which sells a wide range of gourmet products.
In April, FairPrice will launch its fifth hypermarket at the commercial complex UE BizHub East in Changi Business Park.
FairPrice’s customers can also expect faster checkout times, as the chain implements more self-service checkouts in its stores. It is also expanding overseas, with its first hypermarket in Vietnam set to open this year.
The company has a 46 percent share of the grocery-store market in Singapore, excluding revenue from hypermarkets and convenience stores. To date, FairPrice has 106 stores in the country.
Meanwhile, it plans to open 16 convenience stores this year, and is studying the feasibility of allowing shoppers to use their mobile phones like stored value cards to make contactless payments.
